6 Reasons to visit Vertuccio Farms this Fall

Jana Tingom

When October arrives, it’s hard to get fully into the spirit of fall when the temperature gauge still reads 95. But don’t let the heat keep you indoors! Phoenix has a great selection of pumpkin patches and this year, we recently visited Vertuccio Farms for the first time with friends.

With our group of five children, ranging from 6 to 19 months, we had a wonderful morning exploring this farm in south east Mesa.

Here are our top favorites and we hope it sparks your interest to visit this month.

1. Zip line is awesome! Seriously, our kids did this activity over and over (and over) and didn’t mind waiting in line a couple minutes to once again ride the 20 second zip line. There were three efficient and cheerful employees running two lines during our visit. Our 2 year old even had a safe go and was all smiles.

2. Affordable food/snack selection! We brought a lunch along, but probably would have just purchased meals at the farm had we known the affordable prices. There were hot dog and chicken tenders (with chips and a drink), nachos, cheese pizza, plus ice cream treats and drinks. Prices ranged from $3-$6 for meals, and $1-$3 for snacks and drinks. There were plenty of picnic tables in the food area, and also scattered around the farm.

3. Activities for all ages! We were impressed with the activities that covered all age groups. A lot of places focus on five or under, or more of an older age bracket, which can be frustrating for siblings. But here, everyone could enjoy the giant jump pad or air pillow, try their hand at mini golf, go pumpkin bowling, join in the duck racing — and so much more. Don’t miss the giant tube slides and barrel train rides too.

4. Epic corn maze! This is one activity that we felt was too advanced for our crowd, and it better suited older children, teens and adults. The corn maze is very detailed and a lot of fun, with multiple checkpoints to find, if you don’t mind wandering in the hot sun and can follow a map. Our kids tired quickly so we only wandered for about 10 minutes. One year will we return and conquer!

5. $2 and $3 pumpkins are good kid size! At other pumpkin patches we’ve visited, the $2 pumpkins are very small and not worth the price. Vertuccio offered perfect kid sizes (think: if you can carry it, we’ll buy it, ha) without breaking the bank. There are also large pumpkins for sale, perfect for carving or decorating.

6. The sunflowers! You can take some wonderful photos of the sunflower fields on the barrel train ride. But don’t miss walking a short distance past the animals to be right next to these gorgeous yellow beauties. There are paths that take you between the rows as well and you’ll get some amazing photos.

Bonus: drive thru coffee shop nearby! We saw the sign for Gill’s Grounds near the farm entrance and had to stop. They have a wide variety of espresso drinks and smoothies. This made for a easy stop with tired kids and mom needing a little pick me up.
