Rachel’s Young At Art Studio in Scottsdale

Rachel’s Young At Art Studio in Scottsdale is the perfect place for children to express their creativity and ideas through art. They welcome ages 18 months to 8 years old.

We visited recently for an hour Paint With a Pal class. Having no expectations, it was exciting to walk into the studio and immediately be welcomed with color! The area is a mixture of craft tables and play areas, with the huge wooden playhouse being an immediate draw to our kids. You can’t help but smile as you walk around and see the fabulous wall and floor paintings that Rachel has added!

The class was not guided by a instructor, but more of a free style learning experience. We went from table to table as the kids desired, checking out the activities. The five tables had stencils and coloring, simple bracelet making, water colors with coffee filters, geometric tissue paper shapes for gluing and stamps. On the side walls were three easels set up for painting, plus a huge mock window for painting and markers! (Yes, on the window — our four year old LOVED this!) Children are welcome to come and go from the tables, and make as many of the offered projects as they want. Parents are encouraged to create alongside their kids as well!

A nice touch is an assistant, who is there to help children if needed. She also took the completed projects and added them to a huge paper bag, which had the child’s name on it. At the end of the class, you can grab your bag and everything is inside! Such a great organization idea!

As a mom, I loved the variety of projects available – without the clean up! Also, it gave me some new ideas for possible art times at home. For example, wetting the the tissue paper squares to make a watercolor like mosaic is so creative. Five minutes of prep could yield a relatively easy at home art project for the kiddos. But overall, having a dedicated place to come and create is so nice.

A few fun extras was the wooden playhouse, play kitchen, some dress up clothes and books. We didn’t explore much with these (too busy with the art projects!) but it was a nice bonus to the experience. Younger children might enjoy these more, a break from painting or whatnot.

Rachel’s Young At Art also offers birthday parties, camps, date night drop offs, and classes! Check out their website for more information. Bonus: Arizona Foothills magazine just named them the Best Birthday Party Spot for Kids in 2019!
