Surprise Community Park in Surprise, sits between the spring training field, and the city hall. Not only is the park packed with fun things to do, but it is also located right next to the epicenter of where many City of Surprise holiday and community events occur!

If you pull into the park from Bell Rd. you’ll want to drive past the Surprise Northwest Regional Library and find parking either in the library parking lot or turn left just past the aquatic center to find parking directly in front of the big community playground!

The playground says it was designed for ages 5-12; however, we have been taking my daughter there since she was 18 months old! We find that there are parts of the playground accommodating for even our littlest walkers. Such as slides, walkways, and stairs.

There are also two buckets swings available, made for your little swingers, four traditional swings for your more advanced swingers, and one swing made for special needs.

There are 5 slides, monkey bars, two rock-climbing walls, and lots of interactive activities, including a fun “storefront” that my kids like to play pretend in.

Just next to the playground, there is a large fishing pond, where you will find lots of ducks, geese, and (not pictured) a few little turtles that you can occasionally see sunbathing on the rocks inside the pond.

Surrounding the pond, you’ll find a few of these steel turtle and lizard structures, and if you look closely, you made find a hand-painted rock inside their mouths or on top of the turtle’s head.

There is an online community called Surprise AZ Rocks that hand paint and hide cute rocks all across Surprise, and one of their most popular hiding spots happens to be Surprise, Community Park. So, keep your eyes peeled for those too!

When the library was open (pre-covid), we enjoyed going to a library activity and heading to the park after.

The Surprise Community Park recently commissioned a memorial piece to be constructed and beautifully painted commemorated our Veterans. This site is located on the north side of the park, just behind the library.

In addition to small commemorative pieces scattered along the park, you will find two large dog parks, one for small dogs and another for big dogs. There are two large volleyball courts, basketball courts, and several pickleball courts. People travel far and wide to compete in the City of Surprise Pickleball Tournaments!

Adjacent to the park is the Surprise Aquatic Center that holds events, including swimming classes and an open pool where paying participants can jump off the diving board and slide down their two large winding slides.

The price to enter the pool is $1, ages 1-17, $2 for adults for Surprise residents, and $5 for non-residents.

Surprise Community Park in Surprise has so much to offer in the form of family fun and entertainment. It is definitely ranked as one of the Best Parks in Phoenix!

  1. How tall do the children have to be to go on the slides? Can they wear a floater vest while riding the slides?
