Yes, snow exists in Arizona – and there is free snow play in Arizona! You will likely see the best snowfall starting in January and running through March. We just returned from Pinetop where the snow was almost a foot deep!
Some of our best FREE snow play memories have simply been at parks. Once the plows clear parking lots, there’s often snow piles that can double as sledding hills too. Or bring along a shovel and make a simple sledding run. Another huge perk of playing at parks is that there are usually bathrooms available as well.
Please keep in mind that road conditions will change drastically. We’ve driven in some pretty nasty snowfalls, and not all drivers are use to slippery roads. It’s best to keep tabs on weather conditions, and head out of town the day after a snow storm. Be safe!

- Fain Park, Prescott Valley
- Thorpe Park, Flagstaff
- Buffalo Park, Flagstaff
- Fort Tuthill County Park, Flagstaff
- Cureton Park, Williams
Another option for free snow play is hiking trailheads, which often have parking and restrooms (note that bathroom options may be seasonal)! This route can be tricky, as trailheads can be listed as closed on websites, BUT it often refers to being closed to seasonal hiking – and they are open for snow play. Please do not cross any closed gates or barriers, and respect any signs about private property, no parking, etc.
