Summer time in Phoenix means being forced to stay indoors a good portion of the day. In the search for a new activity, we came across We Rock the Spectrum, located at Tatum and Cactus Roads in Scottsdale — and immediately fell in love! The colorful, large and active room draws in kids and parents alike. There’s plenty to occupy all ages up to 9 or 10 (though there may be an age limit we didn’t see).
There are ten pieces of specialized equipment. From numerous types of swings, to a short zip line and climbing structure, to a mini climbing wall and monkey bars and more, it is truly a place for kids of all ability levels to safely explore, experiment and strengthen their bodies. We were especially impressed with the helpful employees, and the open arms to special needs children. (Please check their website to learn more on how they are willing to assist your family.)
More than gym equipment, this awesome place has toys, a playhouse with kitchen and dress up clothes, and a small craft table. If your kids need a break from swinging or climbing, they can check out the wide variety of cars, puzzles, blocks, books, dinosaurs collection and even a train table. And much more! Our kids are partial to this cute house with four locked doors and coordinating keys. (There’s even a small collection of infant toys for the younger crowd.) The craft table can seat three, with basic supplies to color, dot paint, or stamp. And next to the table is the play kitchen, with endless possibilities to pretend and imagine with a friend.
A wonderful addition to this play area is the side room with tables and chairs, perfect for snack time or lunch. Bringing your own food is welcome, as well as drinks, as long as they are kept here. There are also drinking fountains and a bathroom. We almost always bring some sort of food along on our gym visits because active kids usually means hungry kids!
Also of note is the sensory room. Our five year old daughter loves this area. It’s small, with a door that closes, low lighting, and comfy bean bags to lay down and take a break. If the craziness of the main room gets to your child like it does her, encourage them to take a breather and sit in silence for a few moments, or chat with you. There is a small sensory wall for little hands to explore.
The next time your kids are bouncing off the walls, load them into the car and visit We Rock the Spectrum! They have monthly memberships available, plus 5 or 12 visit passes, as well as hosting birthday parties.
