Friendship Park in Avondale is right off the I10 interstate in West Phoenix, just past the 101 loop, with fabulous outdoor options of fun for the family! There are three playgrounds, a splashpad, a lake, and lots of open space to run and soak up sunshine.
From the main entrance off McDowell Road (there are two entrances), you’ll immediately see a small pond and playground to your right. The pond is open for fishing, but no swimming or wading is allowed. The partially covered playground is newly updated with a fun climbing structure, slides, and swings. There are also restrooms here. Don’t miss the beautiful mural by the pond as well!
At the round about, you can take a left or a right. Both ways will lead to playgrounds! The playground to the left is much newer and extensive, and also boasts a lovely seasonal splash pad. Restrooms are nearby, as well a some picnic tables and benches.
We loved this playground! The huge merry go round was a favorite. The different play structures are spread out, two areas with shade structures; it was easy to keep tabs on the older kids while letting the baby explore the toddler playground. The papillon swing was another favorite, big enough for all three kids.
A plus for this park are the walkways that connect all the playgrounds and lake. Some are sidewalks, a few meander around to the side. It would be fun to let the kids ride scooters and take a long walk around the park perimeter! The green fields are very inviting for picnics and ball time too.
Friendship Park in Avondale offers other amenities of basketball courts, tennis courts, baseball fields, a dog park, picnic ramadas, soccer fields, and and a mini garden. There is plenty of parking, but it gets busy on the weekends. Definitely make a stop at this park if you’re in the West Valley!
