During this perfect weather Arizona, we were off exploring some back roads of Superstition Mountain when we fell upon Peralta Regional Park in Gold Canyon. This spot has trails, campgrounds and equestrian trails and was so beautiful we headed out for a walk!
We parked near the large ramadas for ease of access to all trails. There are over 9 miles of hikes available with varying degrees of difficulties. We started on the Star Gazing Trail, which looped up around to the Oro Vista, which took up to the top of the mountain. There were a few rough spots, but it was a well maintained trail. We hiked along the Star Gazing Trail and discovered a Stargazing Mode where you could set up a telescope. If you plan on camping and have a telescope, bring it! I can only imagine how beautiful it would be at night. CampingOvernight camping costs $10 per night for all individual sites, and group sites are $35 per night. This park is designed for a backcountry primitive camping experience. The park offers rustic campsites for tent and car camping only. Tent campsites have a parking space (10×20 ft) that can accommodate one vehicle up to 20 feet in length. The backpacking campsites are just a hike away for a secluded camping experience with convenient access to the trail system and other park amenities a short hike away. Reservations can be made here .
Peralta Regional Park in Gold Canyon is situated in the incredible Superstition Mountains and offers Equestrian Staging Area, 9+ miles of multi-use non-motorized trails with varying difficulty, 18 Picnic Sites and 2 Large Group Picnic Sites, Stargazing Node for setting up a telescope, 31 Remote Campsites and Interpretive trail with educational panels. Park Hours are from Sunrise to 10pm.
The fee is $7 per vehicle for day-use visitors. You can purchase ahead of time online or scan the QR code at the site.
Eating There are 2 large picnic areas available towards the center if the area. We enjoyed a picnic lunch here between hikes.
Restrooms This waterless bathroom is possibly the cleanest I have ever seen. Not sure if it was because there were not many guests or it was recently cleaned, or if it was the job of a great camp host, but nice nonetheless.
Getting There The road to the trail was a long dirt road. It was muddy when we went due to recent rain. I saw a few cars, but would definitely recommend a higher clearance vehicle if possible.
