Spooky Safari at the Phoenix Zoo is a three day event, combining trick or treating with animal encounters, games, meet and greets and more!

We had a blast walking the zoo at night and visiting the 15 different tables for candy treats. The event is held around the safari loop, and includes the camels, carousel, and treehouse area. Along the way we learned about snakes, scorpions, and other slithery creatures thanks to zoo employees who had them on display. The owl was pretty cool too.

We stopped at a coloring booth, played some simple carnival style games, and marveled at a cool science show. The princess meet and greet was definitely a favorite too! Face painting was also included in admission but the line was so long we opted to keep walking and join a dance party with a dino.

A few tips:

  • We brought flashlights but didn’t need them.
  • Glow sticks would have been fun, but there’s plenty of fun glows from the Zoolights display (which starts end of November!)
  • A stroller or wagon is handy for young kids, and just to carry candy buckets, water bottles, etc.
  • Stop by the DJ area if you need a candy bag – Denny’s Restaurant was giving them out.
  • Some candy booths and game booths had a line, but moved fairly quickly.
  • We took our time and spent about 1.5 hours here. This included a few line waits and riding the carousel.
  • This event seems best for ages 10 and under.

The event continues Thursday and Friday, Oct 26 and 27, 5:30pm-8:30pm, and tickets are $15/person (2 and under free). No costumes with weapons, masks or fake blood allowed. The snack shops are open for food purchases, and the carousel and camel rides are available too for an extra charge. The Phoenix Zoo is located at 455 N Galvin Pkwy, Phoenix, AZ 85008 .
