If you have little ones, you’re going to want to run and grab tickets to the Very Hungry Caterpillar Show in Phoenix! This performance was a real treat for my 2.5 year old.

A week before the show, we went to our local library and checked out the 4 Eric Carle books that were being featured:

  • Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?
  • 10 Little Rubber Ducks
  • The Very Lonely Firefly
  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The day of the show, we arrived 20 minutes before showtime (the show does start on time!). This gave us enough time to find the free parking garage right next to The Madison Center for the Arts. We parked in the basement which had more than enough spots for covered parking. It only took us a few minutes to walk from the car to the show!

In the lobby they had a coloring station set up for kids featuring animals from the different books. We were able to color for a few minutes before we had to use the restroom and head inside so if you’re interested in spending more time with this activity, taking pictures before the show, or getting snacks from the concession stand, I would recommend getting there a bit earlier than we did!

They had a stroller check inside, but we hardly saw any since it was such a short walk to the show. A few families brought carriers for infants, but my 6 month old did just fine on my lap. I saw some families brought toys for their babies, but my daughter just enjoyed looking around. Stuffed animals from the books are available for purchase in the lobby as well. You will need a ticket for children 12 months and under (just $5 for a lap child!).

We sat in the middle of the auditorium and, with booster seats they have available in the back of the room, he could see the whole show! There didn’t appear to be a bad seat in the house. There are no photos or videos allowed during the show, but they did bring out a few animals at the very end for everyone to grab photos of which was a nice surprise.

Shows of the Very Hungry Caterpillar Show in Phoenix. are every Sat and Sun through October 8, 2023 at the Madison Center for the Arts, 5601 N 16th St, Phoenix, 85016 . More details can be found on their website.
