Desert Breeze Park in Chandler has 3 playgrounds, a lake, a splash pad, ramadas, fields, courts, and a train! Sounds great right?! There is also a Hummingbird Habitat you need to check out. I am starting this off with a map because there is so much more here than I realized, and things could easily be missed.
South Playground
There are two playgrounds on the south side of this park. On the day we visited they were adding new wood chips, which is SO cool to watch, but we didn’t get to try out everything because of that. There are slides, bridges, games, swings, ride on the bike, spinning structures, merry-go-round, and a giant fish. The playgrounds were shaded pretty well and in between the two was a shaded ramada, but no restrooms on this end.
North Playground
The north side of the park is where you will find a splash pad, row of swings, wood chip playground, and the train station. Lots of climbing and slides with one big bridge going across for added fun.
I personally was not a fan of this playground. Not designed for people with multiple children, too easy to run off. On the other side of the bridge is the splash pad, to one side a lake and to the other the train. Honestly, it took about two minutes before I lost sight of one of mine and said nope, no more playground. Fortunately, there are so many other fun things, the kids didn’t mind.
Splash Pad
Features include a buttercup, misty mountain, ground spray, three ants, corn poppy, flutter, morning cross, and three surf stones. The amphitheater-type seating along the side is lovely for breaks and snack time. Around mid-afternoon, you may find this splash pad slightly shaded as well! Hours April 10-6, May-August 9-7, September – October 10-6 and closed November – March. Double-check their social media or here for any changes.
Picnic
On the south end, you will find a pavilion in between the two playgrounds, as well as two more amongst the grass area leading you to the north side.
To the North, there is a whole Picnic Pavilion, lakeside ramadas, a few covered ramadas away from the lake, and numerous picnic tables throughout the park. We thoroughly enjoyed our snack on a bench next to the water.
Park
Desert Breeze Park in Chandler has baseball fields, softball fields, multi-use fields, sand volleyball, tennis, walking trails, 3 playgrounds, a splash pad, a lake, and of course a train. There are 2 sets of restrooms, one located near the north park, and one in the middle.
Desert Breeze Railroad
Locomotive #1329 leads the train (1/3 scale GP-38 locomotive) complete with a little red caboose to lead you around the park. Desert Breeze Railroad train runs weekends Labor Day through Memorial Day, Friday through Saturday, and special holidays. Confirm here if the train is running before you visit.
Hummingbird Habitat at Desert Breeze Park
The Hummingbird Habitat at Desert Breeze Park is open to the public every day of the year. This beautiful space demonstrates the beauty of native and desert-adapted plants in an inviting garden.
Getting There
GPS dropped us at the southern playground area. There is plenty of parking near the south playgrounds. There are also multiple parking lots to the north. There is a parking lot in the middle near the pavilions. If you want to go to just the train, park farther north. It is a large park, so remember if you park far away you will be walking a lot.
