We visited Foothills Park in Glendale to check out the StoryWalk, but ended up playing at the park for hours. The big kids playground was fun, so was seeing dogs at the dogpark, skaters and even a hiking trail with a little water in Skunk Creek.
This sand playground is designed for big kids. The large canopy covered most of the playground. If you don’t mind the sun, this is a good spot for bringing sand toys to play with. The slides, rock wall, and climbing structures were all fun. There are two toddler swings and two big kid swings. Kids had fun climbing on the seal and lion pretending they were their pets.
There is a separate singular toddler park (located off Union Hills) that has a small dinosaur to ride as well as a shaded climbing structure. This would be great if you had new climbers.
Picnic
There are 2 ramadas on the East side by the big kid’s playground and baseball fields, with 4 more ramadas farther west in the park.
Park
Foothills Park in Glendale offers a wide range of recreational and park amenities. With Skunk Creek Linear Park dissecting it, Foothills Branch library to its north, and the Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center at its southeast corner, this park has and is located near some great facilities.
The park includes the playground, dog park, 3 baseball fields, sk8 park, separate singular toddler park, Skunk Creek Linear Park trail as well as Foothills Recreation and Aquatic Center. The only restrooms I saw were located next to the toddler playground, which is not a quick walk from the big kid’s playground.
StoryWalk
StoryWalk is a way to enjoy outdoor exercise, fun, and unique story-related activities along the way. Playground visitors can follow a very specially-selected children’s book as it weaves a tale while winding its way through signposts along an 18-station path to its happy conclusion.
The new StoryWalk is free and open to the public during regular park hours, seven days a week. Every three months, at the time of the season change, a new children’s book will be featured. We had a blast running from page to page as we worked our way around the park.
