O’Neil Park in Glendale recently added a splash pad in 2021 and it is fantastic! We have never visited this park before, but quickly made a trip to the West Valley after the Memorial Day weekend grand opening to check it out. We were not disappointed!
First, there are two sand playgrounds at O’Neil Park, and bonus, both are shaded! The first playground is for younger children, with slides, a few tunnels, and other fun climbing options. Our toddler loved playing, and it was close to the big kid playground so we could keep tabs on our two older children as well.
The second woodchip playground had an abundance of options! Our kids quickly dubbed it “monkey bar heaven” because we counted seven different options! In addition you’ll find a short climbing wall, a couple of slides, and multi layers to climb and explore. Again, this playground and the smaller playground are pretty near fully shaded! This makes a great play options for those early summer mornings.
Moving on the splash pad! This area use to be an unused community pool, and the city decided to turn it in to a splash pad. We’re so glad they did! The splash pad sits a short walk from the playgrounds, is gated with only one entrance/exit, and has three shaded picnic table areas. More splash pads need these shaded areas for observers!
At the splash pad you’ll find fifteen different water desires. Yes, fifteen! The highlight is a large dumping bucket. We should have timed how often it dumps, but it is frequent. The kids loved it! They also loved the three spray circles, the umbrella fountain, and the two oversized sprayers. There are numerous little fountains for younger children, a spinning sprayer, and more! Don’t miss the three small squirt pads too – so unique! All these features can be turned on by pressing the button pole found to the left of the splash pad.
The splash pad at O’Neil Park is a fantastic addition to the West Valley water play options! Add it to your list this summer for sure. This splash pad runs May 29th – August 8 (11 am – 7 pm), and August 14 – September 6 (Saturdays and Sundays 11 am – 6pm).
O’Neil Park in Glendale also offers ball fields, basketball courts, racquetball, soccer, and ramadas with picnic tables. There are bathrooms here as well; they were currently closed during our visit and two port-a-potties were available. Park hours are 6am-10pm.

Wow, this looks like a great time and something enjoyable for the community. As a father of 2 young kids we are always looking for new places to take the family. We have been going to many parks with play sets but the splash pad will be a great way to cool off from the Arizona heat! I also love that there are options with basketball, baseball, racquetball, etc. We typically bring our large Greyhound to the park with us to get in a good walk. Do you know if dogs are permitted?
Hi! I don’t know for sure about dogs. I’d check the city website. Perhaps dogs on a leash are acceptable?
