Leveraging Printed Circuit Boards with SOLIDWORKS Electrical https://trimech.com/leveraging-printed-circuit-boards-with-solidworks-electrical/ Sun, 03 Nov 2024 16:22:45 +0000 https://trimech.com/?p=71471 The goal with any electro-mechanical design team is to be streamlined and connected to ensure changes are communicated properly and designs encompass all aspects of our design. We typically see that electro-mechanical design teams are often disjointed and there is no real link between electrical data and mechanical data.

SOLIDWORKS Electrical combines the best of the 2D and 3D worlds by allowing for best-in-class schematic designs to freely flow down to their 3D representations inside of SOLIDWORKS. This is incredibly useful for laying out schematics and showcasing things like wires or cables, electrical components, and even hydraulic/pneumatics, but what about Printed Circuit Boards? Often, the PCBs are designed in separate software and have no link to either the schematic or the mechanical assembly, leaving room for errors to pop up during design changes. Fortunately, SOLIDWORKS provides some great functionality for interlinking Electrical, Mechanical, and Circuit Board Designers and allows for seamless collaboration.

Join us as TriMech Elite Application Engineer, Sawyer Gara shows how SOLIDWORKS Electrical can improve collaboration across the Electro-Mechanical Design team. We’ll see how to leverage CircuitWorks to import industry-standard PCB files and convert them to usable SOLIDWORKS models. From there, we swap over to SOLIDWORKS Electrical to put both the PCB Design file and the SOLIDWORKS Model in the Electrical Library. There are a couple of different ways to represent a PCB in your Electrical Schematic, so we will be sure to discuss the options as well. Finally, we’ll jump back over to SOLIDWORKS and leverage Electrical 3D to place the PCB in our SOLIDWORKS Assembly to have a true representation of the finished product and improve our design intent.

During this SOLIDWORKS Electrical Printed Circuit Boards Webinar, you will learn:

  • Converting Circuit Board Designs to SOLIDWORKS Geometry
  • Linking Board Files to SOLIDWORKS Electrical Library
  • Representing PCBs in SOLIDWORKS Electrical
  • Leveraging Schematics in Electrical 3D

SOLIDWORKS PDM and Toolbox: Configuring and Updating https://trimech.com/solidworks-pdm-and-toolbox-configuring-and-updating/ Tue, 02 Jan 2024 14:33:36 +0000 https://trimech.com/?p=67105 One of life’s biggest questions is “Do we want to manage our SOLIDWORKS Toolbox inside of PDM or do we want each engineer to be responsible for their own Toolbox”. From one perspective, leaving the Toolbox outside of the vault means less admin-level configuration and more flexibility for each user to create components and configurations at their own will. However, putting the Toolbox inside of the PDM Vault and therefore controlling it like any other file means we have a more secure and collaborative system that leaves out the nonsense, less-used configurations.

Sawyer Gara, a TriMech Elite Applications Engineer, discusses SOLIDWORKS Toolbox and its integration into SOLIDWORKS PDM. He begins by familiarizing attendees with the SOLIDWORKS Toolbox and discussing the benefits of using it as opposed to manually creating standard hardware. From here he covers how to tell SOLIDWORKS PDM to manage our Toolbox and recognize where it lives. After telling PDM to use our Toolbox, we can then configure SOLIDWORKS to use that shared location! Finally, he touches on some key settings within PDM to ensure the Toolbox integration is successful and to ensure future upgrades go off without a hitch.

During this SOLIDWORKS PDM On-Demand Webinar, you will learn:

  • Overview of SOLIDWORKS Toolbox
  • Setting Up Toolbox within PDM
  • Configuring SOLIDWORKS to use the correct Toolbox
  • Key Settings when Working within PDM
  • How to Update the SOLIDWORKS Toolbox

Watch as TriMech Elite Applications Engineer, Sawyer Gara, walks us through the How SOLIDWORKS Electrical and PDM integration tool. SOLIDWORKS PDM is a powerful CAD-aware data management tool that can handle almost anything you throw at it and SOLIDWORKS Electrical is our best-in-class electrical schematic design tool that is integrated into Electro-Mechanical Design Process.

Traditionally, our SOLIDWORKS Electrical Designs have lived solely outside of our vault and short of using the SOLIDWORKS Electrical Viewer, most of our team did not have visibility to the projects. Now there is a direct integration for SOLIDWORKS Electrical to work with our SOLIDWORKS PDM Vault.

During this SOLIDWORKS Electrical and PDM On-demand Webinar you will learn:
  • How it all works
  • Key options during the set up process
  • Things to keep in mind
  • Where do we go from here

Terminal Strip Editor and Bridging in SOLIDWORKS Electrical https://trimech.com/terminal-strip-editor-and-bridging-in-solidworks-electrical/ Tue, 28 Nov 2023 21:37:31 +0000 https://trimech.com/?p=66196 Terminals are important in electrical design for transmitting power to multiple devices. They can be challenging in many software programs, due to organization and bridging. In this webinar, we have an overview of the terminal strip editor, touching upon the features that are contained within. After getting a feel for the capabilities of the terminal strip editor, we dive into the topic of bridging. This starts by examining the methods in which bridges can be created, whether that be through the terminal strip editor, or directly in our schematic.

As previously mentioned, things can start to get a little complicated when it comes to bridging. We look at an example of automatic bridging, and examine issues that may arise, demonstrating how to deal with them in the process. This will help to highlight the differences between manual and automatic bridge creation.

Client Success Analyst, Jesse Deane, shares his knowledge of the terminal strip editor and helps you gain confidence when implementing bridges.

During this SOLIDWORKS Electrical On-Demand Webinar you will learn:

  • Terminal strip editor overview
  • How to add bridges within the editor
  • How to add bridges within the schematic
  • Automatic vs. manual bridging

Dexai Robotics - Transforming Commercial Kitchens

"There’s a big human component that I really appreciate about TriMech. It’s very easy to get on the phone with them or email them and get an answer.

Even as we were researching 3DEXPERIENCE and comparing it with other products on the market, they seemed to have unlimited time to go through the decision-making process, which was amazing. And later, TriMech allowed me as an individual with no IT experience to roll out a PLM product to a big team."
