We recently ventured out to check out the brand-new Halloween-themed event, Glowing Pumpkins in Tucson. There wasn’t a lot of info on the website, so we went with open minds and the kids were intrigued – how would the pumpkins glow exactly?
First things first, you park in the lot by Dillard’s and the event is clearly visible across the street. You’ll step right into a bright gift shop area, filled to the brim with pumpkin-themed and adorable fall and Halloween goodies. The majority of the exhibit takes place in a spacious section of a mall parking lot, with displays set up behind ropes for you to stroll between.
Now, let’s talk pumpkins! Most of the displays consist of large boards with multiple pumpkins meticulously carved to create stunning pieces of art. You’ll also find single pumpkins showcased on hay bales. There are a few non-pumpkin items like a castle wall, a tree adorned with pumpkin lights, and even a massive pirate ship.
The themes are aplenty – superheroes, dinosaurs, mythical creatures, trains, movie and TV characters, sugar skulls, you name it! Some of the carvings are truly impressive, highlighted with clever lighting and black and white paint.
Towards the end, you’ll walk through a winter wonderland with pumpkin snowmen before making your way back to the gift shop.
Is it kid-friendly? Absolutely! It’s safe for all ages, though older kids or those seeking more interactive elements might find it a tad dull. But rest assured, everyone will recognize and enjoy the characters on display.
Is it scary? No! There’s no gore, no adult themes, and certainly no jump scares. Just a friendly, pumpkin-filled experience.
Is it outdoors? Almost entirely, except for a winter-themed tent and, of course, the gift shop.
Is it wheelchair accessible? Yes, it’s wheelchair-friendly.
Are there restrooms? There are port a potties, yes.
If you have kids or folks who want a Halloween experience that’s 100% safe and non-scary, and you appreciate the artistry of carved pumpkins, then this is the event for you!
On regular nights, it’s $20 per person (kids under 2 get in free), with pricing rising to to $25 entry fee on Friday and Saturday, with an option for a $75 discount ($91 on F & S) for a group of four.
