Gourdy Ghouligan’s Halloween Spooktakular at Vulture City near Wickenburg

After seeing the amazing pumpkin carvings by artist Ray Villafane in Carefree a few years ago, I had to find out where he had taken his work – thankfully it was not too far away in Wickenburg, AZ. Set in the whimsical ghost town of Vulture City, Ray and his team have transformed this real life ghost town in the most perfect setting to display his spectacular creativity and workmanship!

Ticket’s are limited at this ‘Boo-tique’ Halloween experience so you will need to hurry and book your spot. They have live pumpkin carving, family pumpkin carving, wagon rides, face painting, a food truck, bar and you may get lucky and meet the Guinness World Record holder ‘Ray’ himself!

The displays are good for all ages and not scary. There was one monster thing that made noise – like those things in Home Depot – but everything else was pumpkins. Of note, that ghost town did used to have a brothel in it and they had some pumpkins being a bit naughty/suggestive. Nothing innapropiate however. My kids didn’t think anything of it, and walked on by.

The drive up to Vulture City is around 1.5 hours from Scottsdale, at 36610 355th Ave, Wickenburg, AZ 85390. This special event run October 20-22, and Oct 27-29, 2023 . Adults are $24/person, children ages 6-16 are $12/person (under 6 are free).

If you book the afternoon showing I would suggest getting there around 4:00 so you get to enjoy the Ghost Town in the day and also at night. Bring a flashlight to help while you explore! Nearby Wickenburg has plenty to offer too as a historic town with many restaurants.
