Tot Town at Shiloh Community Church is a community center gym turned into a giant playground of toy heaven for kids up to Pre K. Tot Town meets every other Wednesday during the school year and every other Wednesday and Thursday during the summer.

Located in the community center on the north side of the church, Tot Town is set up in the church’s gym. There are station set up that you are perfect for playing. There are train tables, doll houses, little people stations, climbing structures, slides, tool benches, bouce houses, school bus, zany zoo cubes, roller coasters, race track, animals, a centipede to crawl through and many more stations. It is like a play room dream toy rotation. You can move from area to area, or jump around throughout the place. The volunteers store toys in giant bins and you see them picking up and returning them to the bins throughout the play time.

I have visited Tot Town on three occasions with other twin Moms, never by myself. The first time my kids were about 20 months old. It took about 5 seconds for my son to disappear into a bounce house while I was helping my daughter down the slide. I nearly had a heart attack. There is a lot going on, and it is easy to lose a kid in the gym. There is a gate with a child lock on it, however there are 2 fire exit doors that people leave through and kids could easily sneak out.

The combination of helicopter parents standing over their kids and the absentee Moms who sit on the stage or at the tables and ignore their children is a dreadful combination. There are times my kids can’t play with a certain toy because parents are standing around gossiping and not moving for the kids to play. I have also seen bigger kids bully my kids or take toys from them with no parent in sight to help. I know it comes with the territory of getting a large group of kids and parents together, but it always manages to drive me crazy.

Despite the craziness of these events, my children always have fun. It is an inexpensive play place as well as a fun place to meet up with friends. It gives you a great opportunity to test out toys and have the variety for siblings to play nearby, without having to play together.

Tot Town at Shiloh Community Church meets every other Wednesday from 8 -9:30am and 10 -11:30am. There is a $20 cost per family per season. No pre registration is required. Always check the calendar for exact dates before attending. Socks are not required, but recommended by this MoM.
