6 Awesome Coffee Shops in Phoenix that Kids (and Parents!) Will Love.  Coffee shops are kind of a thing with our family. I’m not talking about Starbucks. We’re into the unique, local shop that have comfortable couches and community events and those baristas that know our favorites. 

We have two kids and have been taking them to coffee shops since they were born. Literally! I think our daughter first went to Press Coffee at Scottsdale Quarter (a top favorite location) at 3 weeks, and our son at 2 weeks. Lately, we have been visiting Maverick Coffee almost every weekend. Coffee shops are our place to be together, try new pastries, meet up with friends, and most of all, chill and talk.  

Sometimes the kids bring books, coloring, or small toys to entertain themselves. But in all honesty, some of our favorite places are the ones that are kid-friendly — meaning, an area set aside just for little ones. We know of six places like this that are located over the Valley! It gives the kids new-to-them toys to explore and we as parents have some extra time to breathe. Many thanks to these businesses that offer a little extra love to families. The Teapot (downtown Phoenix) — located south of Roosevelt and 5th, right off the I10. We love this place! It’s family-owned, and you’ll often see the owner delivering your order or coming by to say hi. Besides the normal coffee drinks, they offer simple sides like hummus and pita, or a frittata with fruit. There is a small kids corner indoors, and the real beauty of this place lies in the backyard with cars to ride, a playmat with cars and trucks, and a beautiful 2 story play fort with a twisty slide! We usually arrive around 9:30 am and stay until 1 pm, it’s just that fun for the kids! And parents will find plenty of seating on the grass or picnic tables to relax, chat, or catch up on emails. We always leave refreshed and excited to return soon. Hours are 8 am-2 pm, closed Mondays. $2/child to stay and play.

SaddleCreek Coffee (Cave Creek) — located at Tatum and Dynamite Roads, about an 8-minute drive directly north of Desert Ridge Marketplace. This is a fabulous coffee shop that is newly renovated and a delight to the senses. The atmosphere is hip and relaxing, the coffee and food are excellent (this mom is partial to the coconut milk mocha) and they have indoor and outdoor seating. A small corner to the left of the bar is set aside as a kid’s play area. Parents can sip their lattes and let the little ones enjoy the play kitchen and various toys, which is a win all around. As a bonus, Dynamite Park is a short walk around the corner; so if the kids need to let off steam, there is plenty to swing, slide and climb on — and then come back to enjoy lunch! The crepes are yummy, and the kids’ menu is $5 for various sandwiches, with a side and drink. Hours are 6 am-4 pm, M-F, and 7 am-3 pm on weekends.

Sozo Coffeehouse (Chandler) — on the corner of Alma School and Warner Roads is a coffee shop with plenty of seating, sofas, and tables, and a whole side room with plenty of toys to entertain the kids. From Duplos to cars, to baby dolls and a play kitchen (and much more!), this place is sure to keep your little ones happy while you take a break or catch up with friends. We’ve been coming here since they opened and love the welcoming vibe. Sozo offers coffee and tea drinks, a few pastries, and breakfast sandwiches. Hours are 7 am-10 pm, M-Sat, with the playroom open 7 am-1 pm.

Luci’s at the Orchard (Phoenix) — The Orchard is a combo of three separate businesses (Splurge Ice Cream and Candy Shop, Pomelo Restaurant, and Luci’s Marketplace). Just north of Glendale Avenue on 12th Street is a beautiful natural oasis where parents can relax with coffee or snacks, while the kids play in the splash pad! We especially love Luci’s for their excellent coffee and tasty lunch options, from salads to sandwiches. There is indoor and outdoor seating, with plenty of chairs and tables to accommodate all. The splash pad wasn’t running when we visited, but the kids enjoyed running around and eating their muffins in the grass. Hours are 6am-8pm, 7 days a week, but splash pad hours may vary. Call ahead to confirm!
