Glendale Library Main Branch

Youth

First, we checked out the youth area. I like that it is its own section down the hall, so in case a kid is a little loud, you aren’t interrupting the whole library! There’s a big rug for playing surrounded by board books for young readers. Then rows and rows and rows of picture books. They have bins to return books after you read them. So my kids had fun pulling out books, reading them, and then dropping them in bins. Computers are available for anyone under 18 to use.

Cultural Passes

Cultural passes are available at all local library locations. Available passes vary by location and time of the year. They are valid for one week. So if you check one out on a Monday, it is valid through Monday the following week. It’s great for spontaneous adventures. A great way to check out a new place for free. We have had fun checking them out to discover local places we have not been to before. More information here.

Discovery and Exploration Backpacks

These cards are available to check out, you simply take them to the front desk. The back of each card lists the items that are in the bag. At the front desk, they will pull out the list of everything in the backpack and confirm it is all there. When you return the backpack you will repeat the process.

We loved our backpack so much, that I ordered these same binoculars and one of the books for the kids to use on our hikes. Some backpack options include Family Outdoor Exploration and Discovery, Arizona Wildlife Discovery, Arizona Bird Discovery Rouckhounding, and more. For more information on what is available in backpacks click here.

Book Sale

There are used books for sale in a room at the library. For youth books, the softcover is 50 cents and hardback is a dollar. We love grabbing books at this cost. If they don’t love them, we simply drop them at a local little free library.

Around the library

One of my favorite things about the Glendale Library Main Branch is outside. Obviously, the peacocks are cool, but there is so much more! We enjoyed exploring around the library and getting to see all the beautiful peacocks. Pretty sure my kids offended one by calling him a pigeon.
