The amazing truth about this kids triathlon is that it’s open to athletes of all abilities, and doesn’t require specific training. Distances are age appropriate and kids are encouraged to go at their own pace! This is great opportunity for youths to get their feet wet in the triathlon world amid encouraging volunteers, medical staff, and peers.

There are three age categories:

Junior, Ages 6-8 (swim 50 meters, bike 1.9 miles, run 0.5 miles)

Intermediate, Ages 9-11 (swim 100 meters, bike 3.8 miles, run 1 mile)

Senior, Ages 12-17 (swim 200 meters, bike 5.7 miles, run 1.5 miles)

Specifically for this event, it’s a pool swim with plenty of life guards and lane ropes to help participants.

Here are some additional benefits of kids participating in triathlons:

1. Physical Fitness: Triathlons involve swimming, biking, and running, which provide a well-rounded workout for cardiovascular health, muscle strength, and endurance.

2. Teamwork and Camaraderie: While triathlons are individual events, many kids participate as part of a team or with friends. They learn to support and encourage each other, fostering a sense of camaraderie and teamwork.

3. Confidence and Self-Esteem: Completing a triathlon, especially for the first time, can be a significant confidence booster. It shows kids that they are capable of achieving challenging goals through hard work and perseverance, leading to increased self-esteem.

4. Exposure to Multiple Sports: Triathlons expose children to different sports disciplines, allowing them to discover their interests and talents beyond traditional team sports. This exposure can help them develop a lifelong passion for physical activity.

5. Healthy Lifestyle Habits: Participating in triathlons promotes healthy lifestyle habits, including regular exercise, proper nutrition, hydration, and adequate rest. These habits can have long-term benefits for overall health and well-being.

6. Fun and Enjoyment: Above all, triathlons are fun! They provide children with an opportunity to challenge themselves, enjoy being active outdoors, and celebrate their accomplishments with friends and family.

The Arizona RipRoar Youth Triathlon will be held at McDowell Mountain Aquatic Center and immediate surrounding area at 15525 N Thompson Peak Pkwy, Scottsdale, AZ 85260 .
