Phoenix has an ever developing list of parks! From major renovations and upgrades, like Friendship Park in Avondale, to completely new locations, like Gilbert Regional Park, you truly don’t have to look far for a slide or a swing. Here is list number two of the best parks in Phoenix. Take a family day this weekend to enjoy one near you!
Gilbert Regional Park (3005 E Queen Creek Rd, Gilbert, AZ 85298) – This park made its debut in 2019, and has two more phases to go! The splashpad alone is worth a visit, and there’s also an epic playground, with a separate area for littler ones. It will be fun to see how this park develops. Read our review here.
Friendship Park (12325 W McDowell Rd, Avondale, AZ 85323) – if you’re closer to the West Valley, this park is for you. It’s so massive, with three playgrounds in three separate areas, two of which were recently updated. There’s also a seasonal splashpad, a lake, dog park, and plenty of space to run. It’s right next to the I10 interstate, but road noise is barely noticeable. Read our review here.
Mansel Carter Oasis Park (19535 E Appleby Rd, Queen Creek, AZ 85142) – this park may be the best in the far East Valley! There are two playgrounds in different locations, with a shipwreck themed splashpad, and a dig zone. Kids will love it! There’s also a lake, and other amenities like volleyball and basketball courts.
Fountain Park (12925 N Saguaro Blvd, Fountain Hills, AZ 85268) – this park is worth the drive! There are two playgrounds, with a musical instrument section in the middle. And it’s all by a gorgeous lake with a 400 foot fountain! Around the lake is a paved path, perfect for bikes, scooters, or a leisurely stroll. Read our review here.
Rio Vista Community Park (8866 W Thunderbird Rd, Peoria, AZ 85381) – this older playground has a three story climbing structure, swings, and a seasonal splashpad, all next to a beautiful lake. A large skate park is just a short walk away. There is a large picnic area too, perfect for parties or gatherings. If you’re up for a walk or bike ride, try the New River Trail, easily accessible from the playground.
Glendale Heroes Regional Park (83 W Bethany Home Rd, Glendale, AZ 85303) – this park surprised us, in a good way, by having the familiar playgrounds (for toddlers and older children) right across from each other. A path leads around and through it, making it perfect for parents keep an eye on multiple children who may be scootering around or playing! There is also a seasonal splashpad and basketball courts, with more trails for wandering.
Papago Park ( 625 N Galvin Pkwy, Phoenix, AZ 85008) – Have you heard of Hole in the Rock? It’s an easy hike for kids that gives great views of downtown Phoenix. But it’s only a small part of Papago Park! There are more hiking trails, a lake, toddler playground, nature trail and more at this large park. It also borders the Phoenix Zoo. Chaparral Park (5401 N Hayden Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85250) – this playground was recently updated as well, with the addition of a two merry-go-rounds, each for different ages, and new swings. We love this park as well for the lake, and views of Camelback Mountain. The Scottsdale Greenbelt nearby is also a fabulous option for bike riding!
Christy Cove Park (2352 E Christy Dr, Phoenix, AZ 85028) – one not very common feature at playgrounds in Phoenix are zip lines. But Christy Cove offers an epic one! It twists a few times, almost like a rollercoaster, making it exciting for all ages. There are no restrooms at this park, but it’s definitely worth the visit to this not very busy, neighborhood park.
George ‘Doc’ Cavalliere Park (27775 N Alma School Pkwy, Scottsdale, AZ 85262) – this park is a hidden gem of North Scottsdale. The playground is decent (and massively covered), and there’s a green turf area for picnics. Our favorite area? The nature trail! Winding behind the tennis courts and up a small hill is a kid friendly nature path that offers close up views of desert plant life, and some beautiful views.
